Perk up your patio to get the most out of summer. Front and back, patios, porches, and even balconies can be prettied up to go from drab utilitarian to floral and fun. It’s about the pot, and the plant:
- Purchase inexpensive, colourful pots anywhere from Ikea to Wal-Mart to Loblaws. Ikea sells the BLADET pots, three small white pots on one tray, $5.50; or SKOGSBAR, in a rainbow of colours for $1.99.
- As for the plant, ask at your local flower market which flowers will last all summer, and purchase brightly coloured ones. Begonias and impatiens do well even in shady areas and stay hardy until fall.
- Outdoor furniture is a must. Whether your tiny balcony can only accommodate a bistro table and two chairs, (WalMart, $79.96) or your back garden can hold a large round table, sitting outside extends your summer enjoyment.
- Brightly coloured, durable, inexpensive dishware is perfect for outdoor dining. From sandwiches to barbecues, nothing says summer like eating outside.
