A young man who accidentally shot and gravely injured a 12-year-old boy while trying to teach him a lesson for co-operating with police has been sentenced to eight years in prison.

Before he fired his gold coloured revolver, Bernard Boachie told the boy: “This is what informants get,” court heard yesterday.

Boachie, who turns 21 today, was charged with seven counts, including attempted murder, but pleaded guilty last month to aggravated assault and using a firearm while committing an indictable offence.

It was one of many shootings in the so-called Summer of the Gun.
