Youth leadership conference coming to Calgary

It started off in Vancouver four years ago as a way to tackle gang violence among youth, but Engaging Leadership in Teens (ELITE) has now expanded into Calgary.

ELITE will hold a two-day conference in May 2010 for youth between the ages of 15 to 18 to provide tools so they can make positive choices in their lives.

“I’ve seen gang and drug activity increase and it’s a growing concern,” said Robyn Seetal, chair of the Calgary chapter.

Seetal said that it’s about reaching out to teens who don’t have positive influences in their lives, and showing them there is a better way of doing things.

Currently the ELITE conference is trying to garner sponsorships for the conference and will be expanding its chair committee in the fall.
