The Greater Vancouver Zoo’s baby giraffe has been named Bonnie.
The African Rothschild’s giraffe was given the Scottish moniker at a party celebrating her third-month birthday at the zoo in Aldergrove yesterday.
Around 1,000 entries in the name-the-baby contest were whittled down to three and the mother giraffe was offered three food choices, each corresponding to a name.
Naivasha, meaning “lake in Kenya,” was runner-up.
The winner, Renae Warnock, took home a yearlong family membership to the zoo and a private behind-the-scenes encounter with the giraffes.
