Strap on your helmets, fans, (well, your hometown team jerseys, mostly): the much-annoying NFL lockout nears an end. Sources have told the Associated Press this morning that leadership for both the NFL Players Association and the league’s 32 owners have finally come to an agreement on a new 10-year collective bargaining agreement.
Player representatives for all 32 teams are currently voting on the new contract proposal – said to split the league’s $9 billion annual revenue 53 percent for owners/47 percent for players – at the NFLPA’s Washington D.C. headquarters. An approval by them, said to be a formality, could come any moment, according to reports.
Then, the chaos begins. We’ll have a rundown on upcoming free agency, training camps (two-a-days) and a whole Todd Heap of other things as the day goes on. A “major” press conference could follow the player reps’ vote as early as 1 p.m.
