Nicolas Cage helps to fight poverty in Romania

BUCHAREST, Romania – Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage will travel to Romania to film the sequel to Ghost Rider, and also be guest of honour at a charity ball helping underprivileged Gypsy children get an education.

Cage will be in Romania at the end of October to shoot the movieGhost Rider- Spirit of Vengeance, said a press statement from the charity organizing the ball.

During his stay in the country, Cage will also participate at a Halloween ball organized by the mother of another Hollywood actor, Ethan Hawke.

Leslie Hawke says they are thrilled Cage will be at their event.

Cage’s grandparents emigrated from Italy to America “back in a time when there was tremendous prejudice against Italian immigrants,” Hawke said.

Prejudice against some 1.5 million Gypsies, or Roma, is widespread in Romania, and many Roma children do not get a basic education, which often leads to a life of discrimination and poverty.

Hawke, the actor, was guest of honour at last year’s event, which was held in the giant palace of late Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu.

Cage won the Academy Award for Best Actorfor his role in Leaving Las Vegas in 1995.
