Zoe Saldana faced a ton of backlash last week when the trailer debuted for “Nina,” her long-delayed Nina Simone biopic, and a good deal of it came straight from the Twitter account for the estate of Simone, with pointed messages like, “Please take Nina’s name out your mouth. For the rest of your life,” or the simple posting of a video of Simone singing “Go to Hell.”

Many assumed it was Simone’s daughter, Simone Kelly, behind the tweets, but she swears she didn’t write them, as she doesn’t run that Twitter account — and she feels bad for Saldana.

“It’s unfortunate that Zoe Saldana is being attacked so viciously when she is someone who is part of a larger picture,” Kelly tells Time magazine. “It’s clear she brought her best to this project, but unfortunately she’s being attacked when she’s not responsible for any of the writing or the lies.”

Kelly is still not down with the film, though. Upon watching the trailer, she “didn’t feel much of anything except for poor Zoe,” she says. “This is not how you want your loved ones remembered.”
