Nineteen-year-old man shot in home invasion

A 19-year-old Ottawa man is dead after an early morning home invasion gone wrong in south Nepean yesterday.

Ottawa police responded to a call at 4139 Moodie Dr. at around 1 a.m.

Inside the house, a 19-year-old man was found with multiple gunshot wounds and showing faint signs of life.

Paramedics immediately started treatment and transported the man to hospital, but he was declared dead shortly after arrival.

Police are not officially releasing the name of the victim, but friends have identified him as Michael Swan.

Yesterday, police were still examining the house, which sits in a rural area west of Highway 416 between Barnsdale Road and Brophy Drive.

Neighbours are sparse in the area. Around 300 metres from where the shooting took place, Gerry Miller, the nearest neighbour, said he didn’t hear anything during the night.

Even if there were gunshots, it could be hunters or farmers. In that part of Ottawa, gunshots are not uncommon.

For around two years, the house was being rented to a group of young men in their early 20s, said Miller.

Shortly after the incident, three males were taken into police custody.
