NJ Gov. Chris Christie to Nets: Good riddance

Somehow we get the sense this is the exact same speech Christie gave to
the first girl who ever broke up with him.

The glorious Garden State doesn’t need you, Jay-Z. Or that Kris Humphries, either!

Like a lover scorned, Gov. Chris Christie told the Nets today, it’s OK, he was never really that into them, either.

Speaking at a press conference, the never-shy GOP guv declared to applause, “My message to the Nets is
goodbye.”

“You don’t want to stay here, we don’t want
you. I’m not going to be in the business of begging people to stay
here,” he continued. “There will be no tears shed on my part.”

The Nets played the Philadelphia 76ers tonight in their last home game at the Prudential Center in Newark. Next season the team moves to the Barclay’s Center in Ft. Greene, Brooklyn. The team is owned by Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov; Jay-Z owns a minority stake.

“That’s one of the most
beautiful arenas in America they have a chance to play in. It’s in one of the country’s most vibrant cities,” he continued. (Just a reminder, he is talking about Newark here, folks.) “And they want to
leave here and go to Brooklyn? Good riddance. See you later.”

Reason No. 57 we love Chris Christie, as part of a long list that includes when he told people to “get the hell off the beaches” before Tropical Storm Irene and when he laughed at a Star-Ledger reporter for being “the thinnest-skinned guy in America.”
