No bail in Dorchester murder suspects

Two Dorchester men accused of murder were held without bail in Roxbury District Court on Wednesday after both men were previously held on $100,000 cash bail for unlawful possession of guns.

Raheem Ramirez, 22, of Dorchester, was hanging out on Greenville Street in Roxbury at 11:08 p.m. on July 2 when he was fatally shot. Less than 10 minutes later, police chased two men fleeing on a motor scooter and charged them with firearms offenses.

Police were able to match the bullet that killed Ramirez to the weapon found on Lamar Brinson, 24, and Elijah Small, 24.

According to the Boston Globe, Ramirez spent four years in jail for firearms offenses and was enrolled in the Operation Exit program, which would have provided adequate job training for life post-prison. Instead, he took a fatal bullet wound as he stood with about 10 other people out on Greenville Street when two men rolled up on a scooter and opened fire.

Police chased the men on the scooter through Roxbury until they reached Woodville Street, where the man on the back of the scooter bailed and started running. Police said he held onto the right side of his waistband as he fled. Police caught up to him on Judson Street and found a Smith and Wesson revolver about 10 feet away from him.

Small’s bail was revoked on a pending charge of assault with a dangerous weapon when they were arraigned in court back on July 3.

This case will return to Roxbury Municipal Court on September 10.
