Police aren’t charging a mother who left her seven-week-old baby unattended in the backseat of a pickup truck for about 15 minutes in Tuesday’s hot weather.
“We have heard back from family services. Our investigation has concluded,” said RCMP spokesman Cpl. Joe Taplin, who earlier referred to the incident as something that looked to be an “unfortunate mistake.”
Police were called to the Hubley Center in Tantallon at about 1 p.m. in regards to a complaint of a baby being left in a vehicle. Taplin said the mother of the baby thought she had left him at home with her husband while taking her four-year-old daughter to the dentist for an emergency.
The boy was taken to hospital for observation and is fine, but Nova Scotia Child Services was brought in to investigate.
Yesterday Community Services spokesman Lucas Wide said they’re “not permitted by law to comment on any specific child welfare case.”
