The Senate Intelligence Committee and Speaker of the House Paul Ryan said Thursday there is no evidence of wiretapping at Trump Tower, as the president has alleged in Twitter messages.

“Based on the information available to us, we see no indications that Trump Tower was the subject of a surveillance by any element of the United States government either before or after Election Day 2016,” Sens. Richard Burr and Mark Warner said in a joint statement to CNN.

The statement comes just hours after Ryan said “no such wiretap existed” and two weeks after President Donald Trump made allegations of the Obama administrationwiretapping his residence, offering no evidence to support his claim.

“When I say wiretapping, those words were in quotes,” Trump told Fox News Wednesday. “That really covers — because wiretapping is pretty old-fashioned stuff — but that really covers surveillance and many other things. And nobody ever talks about the fact that it was in quotes, but that’s a very important thing.”
