Nova Scotia man charged in armed robbery

WAYCOBAH, N.S. – A 49-year-old man has been charged after a robbery in Nova Scotia.

The Mounties responded to a report Friday evening of an armed robbery in progress at Rod’s One Stop in Waycobah.

Police say when they arrived, they encountered a suspect and a brief struggle ensued.

Officers arrested the suspect, who they say had a toy replica gun.

Charles Joseph (Junior) Bernard is in custody and charged with robbery, assault, theft under $5,000 and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace.

He is due to appear in Port Hawkesbury provincial court Monday for a bail hearing.
