Now ‘Baywatch’ is getting the ’21 Jump Street’ movie treatment

The news isn’t that there’s a “Baywatch” movie in the works, which there is; the news is that there mysteriously hasn’t been one before. According to THR, the long-running beach and running-in-a-one-piece-female-bathing-suit show is probably going to one day exist, probably with Dwayne Johnson as David Hasselhoff, which means it’s probably going to be a winking, semi-disrespectful revamp a la “21” and “22 Jump Street.” That is, if it’s made, which is still a probably.

If it does exist, it will, as of now at least, be directed by Seth Gordon, who slid from documentaries (“The King of Kong”) into a career as a go-to comedy director of things like “Four Christmases” and “Horrible Bosses.” The screenplay also, as of now, will be done by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, previously responsible not for comedies but for “Freddy vs. Jason,” which was only unintentionally funny.

Other shows of the era you won’t believe haven’t been pillaged for the movies: “Alf,” “Three’s Company,” “Sledge Hammer!”, “The Love Boat,” “Magnum P.I.” and that other Hasselhoff godsend, “Knight Rider.” Hop to it, Hollywood!
