NSPI to chip in $5M to centre

Nova Scotia Power Inc. will donate $1 million a year for five years to move the Discovery Centre into NSPI’s new building on Lower Water Street.

The longtime Barrington Street science education centre will occupy the space in the new building, slated to be completed in the spring, rent-free for 25 years.

According to NSPI, the Discovery Centre plans to move in within the next three years.

The centre’s Barrington Street building was exempted from HRM by Design height restrictions in August.

Developer Fred Medjuck plans to erect a high-rise on the corner of Barrington Street and Sackville Street.

However, the project still must be approved by Halifax Regional Council.
