Rule changes proposed by the Taxi and Limousine Commission concerning improper taxi conversations will aim to eliminate mentions of sexual acts, gender or physical appearance.

The commission’s updated language would clarify definitions surrounding unallowable sexual subject matter and help drivers avoid unacceptable behavior, according to an Associated Press article reported by ABC7.

Also among the proposals are various levels of fines and punishments for drivers who are inappropriate with passengers, including a $1,000 fine, three points on a driver’s license and a 30-day suspension for sexual harassment, according to the ABC7 AP article.

Sexual contact with a passenger would bring the driver a $2,000 fine and mandatory revocation, according to CBS2.

“Our business is just to drive — mind my own business, talk to the customer if the customer wants to talk,” one taxi driver was quoted by CBS2 when asked about the proposed upcoming rule changes.

A hearing has been scheduled for April 21 to allow taxi officials an opportunity to discuss the proposed rules, CBS2 added.
