The NYPD will be handpicking officers to guard Trump Tower, where the president hasn’t visited since his inauguration, according to a new report.

“NY law enforcement sources tell us … the NYPD has been struggling with manning the building since the election,” TMZ reported. “The department’s been drawing from various precincts, and it’s been a little helter-skelter.”

Guarding Trump Tower, where first lady Melania Trump and son Barron reside, costs the NYPD and FDNYhundreds of thousandsa day and requires NYPD manpower in addition to Secret Service for security.

About 30 to 40 full-time NYPD officers will be chosen to guard the location in 12-hour shifts, according to the TMZ report. Those officers must have “solid records” and can’t “take an excessive number of sick days.”

An NYPD spokesman told Metro that New York’s Finest is part of the security detail at Trump Tower, but will contact Metro once more information is obtained.
