NYPD releases video of ATV that struck cop

Police are hoping surveillance video will help lead them to the ATV driver who struck and injured a police officer in Brooklyn on Sunday.

The suspect was stopped by two police officers in the vicinity of Pitkin and Lincoln avenues in Cypress Hills for driving recklessly. As the officers approached the yellow Yamaha ATV on foot, the driver sped away, striking one of the officers and dragging him for nearly 200 feet before eventually running over his leg.

The police officer suffered a broken vertebrae, a broken nose and several cuts and bruises.

Police initially said they had arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the incident, but they later said the man was charged for driving recklessly in an unrelated incident.

The police department released a short video on Monday night that shows the ATV driver speeding down the street.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto Crime Stoppers website or by texting their tips to CRIMES (274637), then entering TIP577.
