O’Brien named as chair for new audit committee

A decision to refund the Independent Living Resource Centre of Ottawa $625 in building permits will go down as the first and only order of business at the inaugural meeting of the city’s new Audit, Budget and Finance Committee.

The decision was accompanied by calls to develop a policy for dealing with such building permit refunds so they don’t require committee approval.

The city’s newest committee is intended to keep a closer eye on Ottawa’s budget throughout the year.

In his first committee meeting back from a leave of absence taken during his trial, Mayor Larry O’Brien was elected chair of the committee. Barrhaven Councillor Jan Harder was elected vice-chair.

After taking the chair for the new committee, O’Brien stepped down as chair of the Corporate Services and Economic Development committee. Cumberland Councillor Rob Jellett was selected to take his place.
