O’Brien will not report to Mooseheads training camp

Ned O’Brien has decided he will not be reporting to this week’s training camp with the Halifax Mooseheads.

The 19-year-old forward informed the team via e-mail on the weekend that he be would attending the University of New Brunswick full-time this year and is planning to try out for the defending national champion Varsity Reds.

Training camp starts Wednesday at Cole Harbour Place.

O’Brien cracked the roster last season after an outstanding training camp, but his play slipped in the regular season and he finished with four goals and three assists in 55 games.

“Ned had a good camp last year but he struggled for a large part of the season,” said Mooseheads general manager and head coach Cam Russell. “He was one of those bubble guys who would have really had to come back and impress us.”

The move leaves the Herd with 62 players coming to camp, which should feature some good roster battles.
