Terron Beckham’s time with the New York Jets might be over (for now) but the NFL hopeful’s dream of playing on Sundays is far from done.

Despite having never played a down of college football, Beckham was given an invite to last week’s Jets minicamp. A fitness model and personal trainer in New York City, Beckham was discovered at a fitness convention in Las Vegas, at vertical jump competition at the Inner Armour booth, a fitness and sports nutrition company. At the booth was Kevin Dunn, CEO of TEST Football Academy.

Based in central New Jersey, TEST has produced dozens of players currently in the NFL such as Patrick Peterson, Joe Flacco, Ryan Clady, Damon Harrison, Duron Harmon, Junior Gallette and many others. When Beckham jumped 44 inches, Dunn was floored and offered him the opportunity to train for the NFL Draft alongside Cyrus Jones, a second round pick in April’s NFL Draft as well as players such as Monmouth tight end Hakeem Valles, Maryland’s Andrew Zeller and Buffalo’s Sal Licata, who all signed NFL contracts

After a Pro Day attended by NFL teams including the Jets, Beckham had to wait till after the draft to earn an invite to rookie minicamp. He did well and earned praise from head coach Todd Bowles but a contract is not coming, at least not immediately.

On Tuesday, Beckham posted on social media his appreciation for the opportunity, even detailing some of the bumps along the way for a player who hasn’t been tackled since high school.

He is the cousin of New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.
