Odell Beckham NFL Trade Rumors Packers Eagles Browns

The month of March has long been the busiest month on the NFL calendar in terms of transactions but expect there to be a good amount of player movement before the new league year begins. During Super Bowl week last year, the Chiefs and Redskins concocted a blockbuster trade involving quarterback Alex Smith. Conor Orr of Sports Illustrated wrote this week that there could be another big swap this January and placed Giants star wide receiver Odell Beckham as one player that could be on the move.

“Jalen Ramsey and Beckham kind of complete the wildcard section here and every list should include a home run possibility because that’s the way teams are thinking,” Orr wrote. “I don’t think it’s an accident that Beckham’s trade-ability continues to surface.”

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio also entertained a Beckham trade several weeks back, writing the following.

“Last year the Rams seemed to be hot on Beckham’s trail in late March before LA landed Brandin Cooks,” Florio wrote. “This year, as the records reset to 0-0 and after the coaching carousel whirs to a conclusion and teams hope to start building hope for 2019, maybe some other coach will think he can bend Beckham in the right direction, harnessing his skills while minimizing any potential distractions he may create.

“It would result in a $16 million cap charge for the Giants in 2019, but it would clear $16.75 million in guaranteed salary off the books. And it would give Beckham’s new team a five-year, $74 million arrangement, a $14.8 million annual average which compares very favorably to the market.”

The 49ers have continuously been mentioned as a top landing spot for Beckham’s services, as have the Packers. New Packers head coach Matt LaFleur is hell-bent on making Green Bay the highest powered offense in the league and placing Beckham next to Davante Adams in an Aaron Rodgers offense would certainly do the trick.

The Browns are another team to watch if Beckham truly becomes available as they have all the salary cap room in the world. Jarvis Landry is also close with Beckham and may pitch new head coach Freddie Kitchens on Beckham.

The long, long shot here is the Eagles. Yes, the Eagles.

The Giants are rumored to be interested in landing Nick Foles as their new quarterback but it’s looking like Philly will be trading Foles – not allowing him to go to any team he wants in free agency. Obviously given the history between the two teams, the Howie Roseman won’t be calling Dave Gettleman any time soon. Unless, of course, the Giants were to put Beckham on the table.

In the end, this would probably be too risky a move for the Giants to make. Beckham could go down as one of the best receivers to ever play the game, and Foles could very well still wind up as a flash in the pan.

The good money here is that Beckham stays put at the Meadowlands. But we are entering a different era in the NFL, where superstar players can be moved at a moment’s notice.
