Officials finalize flu immunization plan for Ottawa

Ottawa Public Health has finalized the local immunization plan for both the seasonal and H1N1 vaccines following Thursday’s announcement regarding the provincial flu shot rollout strategy.

Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Arlene King announced a three-phased approach in the delivery of vaccines. First, the seasonal flu shot will be offered to seniors and residents of long-term care facilities, then the H1N1 vaccine will be offered to all Ontarians in the recommended sequence, and finally, the seasonal flu shot will be offered to the general population.

The new information is incorporated into the city’s vaccination plan, said Ottawa’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Isra Levy.

“This strategy will allow us to effectively deliver the vaccines to people who need it most to stay healthy and reduce the spread of the flu,” he said.
