Officials investigating fire at hair salon

Ottawa firefighters are investigating a fire that caused more than $200,000 in damages at a west-end hair salon early Tuesday morning.

At 3:42 a.m., police and firefighters were called to a blaze at the Blue Shears Hair Salon at 198 Greenbank Rd., said Ottawa District Fire Chief Sheldon Ridgeway.

Twenty-six firefighters with 10 trucks attended the fire and brought it under control in half an hour. The fire is estimated to have caused $52,000 in damages to the building and $150,000 to the contents, Ridgeway said.

There were no injuries.

Firefighters at the scene determined that the fire started in the utility room. Although the fire was contained to the store, it caused smoke damageto the three other stores in the plaza complex.
