Oh, those Movember Knights

While Tom Selleck is widely considered to be the personification of moustachioed greatness, the London Knights have made a valiant attempt this Movember.

The team has done its part in raising awareness and money for prostate cancer research, led – in money raised, not number of whiskers – by centre Chris Tierney.

The 17-year-old is far and away the Knights’ leading fundraiser with more than $700 in donations collected.

“The moustache is a fun way to raise awareness,” Tierney said. “(Prostate cancer) really hits men hard. I know a couple people who’ve had it, so I wanted to do my part and try to make a difference.”

The undisputed moustache kings of the locker-room are Colin Martin and Kyle Flemington. Vladislav Namestnikov and Tommy Hughes were singled out for having weak efforts.

Puberty seems to be playing a large part in whisker growth.

“The older guys definitely have an advantage over some of us younger guys,” Tierney said.

Unfortunately, whispers of “juicing” dogged unnamed members of the team.

“Some guys have dyed their moustaches,” Tierney said. “There is some cheating going around.”

More importantly for the Knights: What do the girls at school think of the facial growth?

“The girl I’m seeing seems to dig it, so maybe I’ll keep it around,” Flemington said.
