Today’s giant oil tankers usually carry four times more oil than local authorities are equipped to clean in the case of a spill, the chief operating officer for Port Metro Vancouver said yesterday.
Chris Badger told Vancouver city council at a meeting aimed at preventing a local spill that Burrard Clean would respond to spills of up to 10,000 tons.
“Over 25,000 (tons) the federal government takes over or at any point where they’ve felt that Burrard Clean is not capable of doing it,” said Badger.
