On-duty New York City cop smashed car into pole, charged with drunk driving

An on-duty New York City police officer was arrested early this morning and charged with drunken driving after he smashed his patrol car into a light pole.

Officer Christopher Morris, 31, was arrested in East New York just after 4 a.m. today. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and refusing to take a Breathalyzer exam.

Morris works out of the nearby 75th precinct in the neighborhood. That is the same precinct where slain Sgt. Peter Figoski was based; Figoski was a 22-year-veteran of the NYPD who was fatally shot in the line of duty in December.

Prior to the crash, Morris had been drinking at a fundraiser party for Figoski’s family before he was kicked out by other cops for being drunk, according to the Daily News. He was put on desk duty at the precinct but sneaked back out in his squad car.
