One man is dead and a Mountie is in hospital following a shooting in Fort McMurray early yesterday morning.
Three officers responded to a gun complaint at about 3:30 a.m.
“They were aware that there was at least potential (for gunfire) in relation to this dispatch,” said Clifton Purvis, executive director of the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT). It is unclear who fired first and how many shots were fired.
The female officer was shot in the abdomen, and yesterday was in hospital in stable condition. She has been serving with the RCMP for 10 months.
All firearms have been seized for the investigation.
