Ottawa is pouring $290 million down the drain and into new and renewed storm/ sanitary sewer and water distribution systems, treatment facilities, bridges, culverts, sidewalks and roads this summer.
The city launched its Ottawa Builds 2009 program at the site of the new $3.6 million Longfields Drive extension from Woodroffe Avenue to Bill Leathem Drive Thursday.
“Infrastructure spending, especially during tough economic times, is a sound approach to generating jobs, strengthening our economy and providing long-term benefits for all of our citizens,” said Coun. Maria McRae.
Projects include rehabilitation projects on Preston Street, King Edward Avenue, Bank Street and Wellington Street. Transit projects include the west Transitway extension and new Park ’n’ Ride areas.
Neighbourhood projects include the new Kanata North Recreation Complex, Britannia Woods public housing renewal project and renovations to library facilities.
