Ottawa gets summer crush on improv

A new improv series at Arts Court aims to bring in comedy lovers who wouldn’t necessarily attend clubs, the executive director at Arts Court said yesterday.

“It’s a different atmosphere,” said Linda Balduzzi. “The audience is part of the process. And because it’s an intimate venue, everyone feels they can contribute to the show.”

My Summer Crush Improv, which opens tonight and runs July 27 and Aug. 3, 24 and 28, features the local professional performers of Crush Improv.

“There’s a huge demand for improv in Ottawa,” said Brad MacNeil, who co-hosts and stars along with Al Connors. Ottawa, in fact, was the birthplace of the Canadian Improv Games.

My Summer Crush Improv, which also features Averie MacDonald, Des Connors, Tim Anderson, Tamar Wolofsky, Amber Forgie, Joel Garrow and Laura Hall, is part of the Downtown Rideau Summer Fling series.
