Housing starts in Ottawa were up last month compared to the same time last year, according to data released by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.
There were 367 housing units in Ottawa in March 2010, compared to 361 units in March 2009.
Year-to-date starts are also up 15 per cent from last year’s first quarter.
“High average income levels and a stable economy support positive growth both for single and semi-detached homes in Ottawa CMA,” said CMHC senior market analyst Sandra Perez Torres.
The CMHC expects both townhouse and apartment starts to lead the way this summer.
