Slow starts and long periods of cold shooting had plagued the 2015-16 Celtics all season and Thursday night it wound up sending them home for the summer. Boston scored just 33 points in the entire first half and shot 36.2 percent from the floor throughout the game as it fell to Atlanta, 104-92, in Game 6 of the NBA quarterfinals at TD Garden.
Isaiah Thomas led the Celtics with 25 points and 10 assists while Jae Crowder contributed 15 points.
Celtics fans chanted “Lets go Celtics!” in the waning moments of the game despite the lopsided score – showing appreciation for what was regarded by most as an overachieving team.
There are bound to be several major transactions for the Celtics this summer as they will own a top five draft pick in the NBA Draft and will have money to spend in free agency. Celtics fans will want to circle May 17 on their calendars as that is the date of the NBA Draft Lottery. The Celtics own the third best odds of landing the No. 1 overall pick and can pick no later than No. 5.
