Even with his team fresh off their fifth straight win, New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo still found areas to nitpick even with the offense seemingly coming along bit by bit.

It was far from a perfect performance from the Giants’ offense, who punted their final five possessions of the game on Sunday. They moved the ball just 50 yards on those final 19 plays and had just two first downs, some tough sledding as they tried to eat up clock and kill the game. With the win the Giants improve to 5-3.

This is in stark contrast to the start of the game for the Giants, who had three touchdowns and a field goal on their first five drives.

“Offense, what we did well: the first five drives, three touchdowns and a field goal and really the other drive, if we don’t have the penalty, we were moving the ball there as well. Zero ‘gives’ for the first time this year and especially in the elements, that was big for us,” McAdoo said. “We showed physicality running the football and we were at our best on fourth down when we needed it. What we need to work on: last five drives, zero points to show. It seemed like we were pressing at times and there were too many technique errors.”

But while some things didn’t work – Odell Beckham Jr. had only five catches for 46 yards – overall things seem to be heading in the right direction. Especially for an offense that struggled to do basic things earlier in the season.

The good news is that in certain areas, the Giants seem to be coming together. One area is the much-maligned offensive line, a unit that was abysmal to start the year but has come along nicely in recent weeks. On Sunday against a good Chicago Bears pass rush that came into the game eighth in the league in sacks, the Giants didn’t allow a single sack.

“I thought the offensive line – we had zero sacks, the quarterback did take a couple shots, but I thought with all the moving parts throughout the whole week and the short week of preparation, I thought they came out and played physical in the run game,” McAdoo said.
