Owners of loot sought

Police in North Vancouver are trying to find the owners of almost $40,000 worth of stolen property that was found in the possession of a Burnaby man.

Harpinder Singh Shergill, 30, faces 27 charges including break and enter and theft in connection with a crime spree that started in North Vancouver in September.

Const. Michael McLaughlin said Shergill allegedly broke into underground parking garages, and from there into cars and storage lockers.

“Even though Shergill amassed a large collection of high-end bicycles, sunglasses and personal accessories like GPS units, the value of his haul pales compared to the destruction that was done to steal it,” McLaughlin said.

“Our Crime Reduction Unit estimates that more than $100,000 of damage was done during 70 similar crimes.”

McLaughlin added that secure parking lots are “useless” unless users stop to make sure the gate closes and thieves are kept out.
