4. We stumble into The Penny Farthing (103 Third Ave.), a big bar named after an old bicycle. With its ample atmosphere and wide-berthed booths, this is a good spot for large groups, and we hang about topside for a while, pounding beers and munching on Little Smokies (a plate full of cocktail weiners, topped with a zesty beer cheese).
