Love the water but just not that into boats? The 107th Progressive Insurance New York Boat Show’s Paddlepalooza will provide everything that fans of outdoor recreation could want to know about Stand Up Paddling, the Hawaiian paddling sport and core-strengthening workout that is sweeping the country.
Paddlepalooza features a variety of workshops by SUP experts, allowing visitors to learn paddleboarding technique on dry land.
Skateboarders can discover how their skills translate to a paddleboard at a land-paddling demo with Mark Langowski of BodybyMark. And yoga enthusiasts can learn how instructor Patti Cuomo uses a paddleboard as a substitute for a yoga mat. A 20-minute SUP fitness class taught by instructors Karen Jewell and Louisa Lima will challenge participants’ balance, strength and coordination.
“The beautiful thing about SUP is that it’s so good for you, and it’s so easy,” says SUP authority and business owner Kim Beaumont. “It’s actually double or more the size of a surf board and very stable, and we give people instruction and help them get up on the board. You get as much of a workout as you want.”
With hands-on learning, equipment tutorials and demonstrations, the only thing missing from Paddlepalooza is water.
