Pair in court over Main Street bank robbery

Ottawa police arrested and charged two people following a bank robbery on Main Street Monday afternoon.

At approximately 1:50 p.m., a lone female entered a Scotiabank near Main Street and Hawthorne Avenue, police said Tuesday.

A handgun was brandished and a demand for money was made, and the woman fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of money.

There were no injuries.

Police arrested a woman and a man on the Rideau Canal Skateway nearby. A handgun, later determined to be an air pistol, was recovered, along with bank property.

Shannon Rhora, 27, of no fixed address, and Christopher Millman, 29, of Ottawa, are jointly charged with three counts of each robbery and uttering threats and one count of each possession weapon dangerous to the public, using a firearm during the commission of an offence and carrying a concealed weapon.

Rhora faces an additional charge of wearing a disguise during the commission of an offence.

Both appeared in Ottawa court Tuesday.
