A New Bedford couple put their toddler at serious risk when they allegedly overdosed on heroin while driving around with their 2-year-old son in the back seat on Friday police said. According to the reports, both parents had to be revived with Narcan, an opiate blocker.

The couple, Jeffrey R. Silva, 30 and Lynette Marie Slocomb, 27 were found outside the car on the ground outside of a grocery story. The couple was charged with child endangerment due to probable cause that the child would have been injured had either overdosed while driving and caused the vehicle to crash.

Both Slocomb and Silva have driver’s licenses that either are revoked or suspended, police said. The couple also allegedly had outstanding warrants. However, investigation confirms the boy was not injured and has since been placed in the care of his grandmother.

They will be arraigned this week.
