Parents-to-be left homeless

After an early morning call of a fire on their street, Jackie Nicholson and Mohammad Rahman rushed home from Edmonton not knowing what to expect.

They pulled up to their Cranston rental home, which they just moved into two weeks ago, only to find it had been destroyed, along with the nursery they had just set up.

“I’m trying not to stress out the baby but it’s hard,” said Nicholson, due on Sept. 6.

Rahman added, “We gathered everything for the baby, we were just getting ready.”

Their home was to the right of where officials say the fire originated, on Cranridge Crescent SE and Rahman, who is an engineer in the city, said they had yet to purchase renter’s insurance.

“The fire probably went unnoticed for some time,” said CFD public information officer Brian McAsey.

“On arrival, the fire had spread to the two adjacent houses.”

McAsey said the investigation is ongoing and a cause has yet to be determined.
