Parking ban tickets keep on piling up

The tickets just keep on coming.

A total of 1,267 people in Halifax Regional Municipality woke up to an unpleasant surprise on their windshields last week as HRM continued to slap parking tickets on vehicles left on the street overnight.

Despite the outrage of several downtown Halifax councillors, parking officials issued several hundred tickets each night between Dec. 14 and 17. At $50 a ticket, that’s $63,350 worth of parking fines in just the first four days of the overnight ban.

On Tuesday, Coun. Sue Uteck (South End-Northwest Arm) called the ban “a tax grab on behalf of HRM,” and urged parking enforcement officials to “show a bit of common sense.”
