The Patriots pounded the Indianapolis Colts Sunday, 45-7, to advance to their sixth Super Bowl in the Tom Brady/Bill Belichick era. The Pats will be looking to win their first Lombardi Trophy since the 2004 season when they play the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl 49 in Glendale, Arizona on Sunday, Feb. 1 (6:30 p.m., NBC).

Brady and Belichickhoisted the NFL championship trophy in 2001, 2003 and 2004 but fell in football’s biggest game during the 2007 and 2011 seasons.

“I have only one thing to say,” Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said Sunday. “We’re on to Seattle.”

Here were the Patriots’ biggest keys to victory Sunday:

1. Blountly speaking

For the second straight Patriots postseason game against the Colts, running back LeGarrette Blount pounded Indy, this time rushing for 148 yards on 30 carries with three touchdowns.

Blount hadn’t had that big of a rushing output since his performance againstIndy in the divisional round last year, when he ran for 166 yards on 24 carries.

2. Best of ’12’

For the second straight postseason game, Tom Brady was superb for New England. He hit on 23-of-35 passes for 226 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. His QB rating was 100.4. The other No. 12 in the contest, Andrew Luck, again struggled against the Patriots. Luck completed just 12-of-33 for 126 yard, zero interceptions and two interceptions.

Brady will be shooting for his fourth Super Bowl title.

3. Secondary nature

Darrelle Revis bounced back from a “so-so” performance against Baltimore in the divisional round with an exceptional game against Indy. The New England defense as a whole was phenomenal behind the cornerback.

Revis’ late third quarter interception of Luck, allowed Blount to scamper in from 13 yards out and put the Pats up, 38-7.
