Darrelle Revis was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers mid-afternoon Wednesday. By 8:30 p.m., news trickled out that he will become the newest member of the New England Patriots.

Revis and the Patriots agreed to a one-year, $12 million deal, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, less than 24 hours after Aqib Talib signed a whopping six-year deal worth $57 million with the Denver Broncos.

Revis is regarded as the top shutdown cornerback in the game when healthy and should give the Patriots their most formidable defensive unit in some time.

Revis was drafted by the rival New York Jets in 2007 and was later a three-time All-Pro under New York head coach Rex Ryan.
