Another day has passed and wide receiver DeSean Jackson remains in Philadelphia. But, for sure, Jackson’s situation in Philly is not copacetic and could end in a trade or flat-out release at any moment in the coming weeks.
An unnamed source told the New York Daily News this past weekend: “The Eagles are trading or cutting [Jackson]. That’s a fact. They don’t want him.”
The latest team to enter the sweepstakes for Philly’s controversial receiver are the New York Jets as owner Woody Johnson said on Sunday that his team was in “win-now mode.”
“We’re looking at a number of players, including DeSean,” Johnson told the New York Daily News. “He’s a very good player, but we’re looking at a number of them.
“I’m not going to use the word ‘patient’ anymore. We want to do it now. Our job is to perform for our audience and that’s what we want to do.”
The Jets’ AFC East rival, the New England Patriots, still have to be considered the front-runners, however, as Philly reportedly would much rather ship him to an AFC team than an NFC team and the Pats’ salary cap situation, though closing, is better than other potential suitors like the Jets.
A NJ.com story regarding Jackson’s possible landing spots suggested the Patriots, with $8 million in cap space, could package a high-end 2014 draft pick (the Pats have three top 100 picks at 29, 62 and 93 overall picks) and a young player like defensive tackle Sealver Siliga.
