Pats play it safe

The Patriots made a safe choice last night, nabbing LT Nate Solder (Colorado) at No. 17, then flipping the No. 28 pick to the Saints.

You can’t quibble with either move. Tom Brady badly needs the blindside protection, and Solder will fit right in with the attitude of the Pats’ LB corps. And it’s tough to see how much more would have been available at No. 28 than in the second round.

What’s to come tonight?

New England is sitting on five picks: Nos. 33, 56, 60, 74 and 92. (Fifty-six came from New Orleans last night.)

Other than Von Miller, most of the top LBs are still on the board. Look for the Pats to take one at 33. After that, it should be on to the D-line, then the ol’ “best available.”

And trades. Lots more trades.
