Pats will face familiar script with 49ers in town

New England handed Houston a Texas-sized loss Monday night.

It was clear by the end of the first quarter that what was thought to be the showdown of the year was going to be more like the shutdown of the year.

There was much doubt surrounding the Pats through the first seven games of the season. They were just 4-3 and barely came out with a win over the Jets in overtime at Gillette Stadium.

Again, in Week 10 against Buffalo at Gillette, it was a last second interception in the end zone that held off the Bills’ comeback.

But even so, the Patriots are 7-0 since a 24-23 loss in Week 6 to Seattle. They crushed the Colts. They crushed the Jets on the road. And on Monday night, they crushed the then-11-1 and AFC’s No. 1 seeded Texans in what will come to be known around here as the Monday Night Massacre.

The Patriots celebrated – and rightfully so – after the win Monday night, but there’s one NFC team that isn’t going to crown them tops in the NFL at this point, and they come to New England Sunday night.

The 49ers are next up on the schedule, and again, the hype will be all about the opposing team and quarterback – Colin Kaepernick.

He’s big, he’s got an arm, and he can certainly run if need be, as highlighted by his 50-yard rushing touchdown to put the game out of reach against Miami on Sunday.

The 49ers also have one of the best running games around as well as a top overall defense in the NFL.

Sound familiar?
