Amtrak has plans to upgrade their main departure board located at Penn Station with new digital information screens.
The idea behind the new departure screen is to provide passengers with clearer and detailed travel information. There will be several information screens placed throughout the concourse to improve the flow of passengers at the station. “The idea is to improve the passenger experience through more dynamic, easier to read and strategically located information points throughout the concourse,” Amtrak spokesman Craig Schulz told Gothamist. The switch to the new digital board is scheduled for this year, according to Gothamist.
Transportation and travel reporter Jason Rabinowitz snapped photos of one of the new digital departure boards in the process of being upgraded.

The upgrade is part of a Penn Station transportation project proposed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo which includes several infrastructure improvements estimated to cost $3 billion, with $325 million coming from government sources.
