Perfect beach day follows Fourth in Boston

After a mild, but grey Fourth celebration in Boston, area beachgoers woke up to clear and sunny skies Sunday, shook off their Independence Day hangovers and made their way to sandy shores.

Clear skies and an easy breeze were forecast for Sunday night, with sunny conditions carrying on into Monday to start the workweek. The National Weather Service projects highs in the mid-80s during the day and some patchy fog Monday night.

Later on, wet, warm and dreary conditions are on the way, said the NWS. Slight chance of thunderstorms Tuesday night and Wednesday with highs again in the 80s, then possible showers forecast for Wednesday night and Thursday.

Things are set to clear up Thursday night into Friday. Mostly sunny with highs in the low 80s to start the weekend and heading into Saturday.

No surprises here, but many Fourth revelers heading back from the Cape spent a big chunk of the day in heavy traffic on the trip home. State Police reported a 3-mile backup on Route 28 to the Bourne Bridge.
