Federal prosecutors have charged a New Jersey doctor with running a so-called pill mill, and then trying to burn down his office to destroy his files.

Dr.Mudassar Sharif, 40, sold prescriptions for the narcotic oxycodone for $500 each to a witness who bought them under five or six names, according to prosecutors. Dr. Sharif also sold oxycodone for $15 per pill.
Sharif began asking the cooperating witness, who lived in Philadelphia, to burn down his Kearny, NJ in exchange for 300 oxycodone pills the witness had already received but not paid for. Sharif told the witness he was having a dispute with Medicare and Medicaid.
Sharif faces mandatory minumum of five years in prison if convicted. He could face up to 11 years.
