Runners and walkers prepare for the race.
On Sat., Sept. 10, runners and walkers are invited to participate in the fifth annual Boxers’ Trail 5K, which takes place in East Fairmount Park. This is where Philly boxing legend Joe Frazier used to train and the trail is scenic and beautiful — complete with cliffs and greenery.
The Boxers’ Trail 5K begins at 9:15 a.m. at Mander Playground and Recreation Center, located at 2140 N. 33rd St. Near the finish line, drummers will perform for the 5K participants. There will also be a boxing clinic for young boxers to train. The race will be followed by a medal ceremony and the 10th annual Strawberry Mansion Day Community Festival. Pennsylvania Representative Vanessa Lowery Brown of the 190th District will also present a citation to the Mander Spray Ground, which officially opened on July 30.
Online registration for the Boxers’ Trail 5K is now closed but you can register the morning of the race in person beginning at 8:30 a.m.
