Man accused of stealing gas-leak detectors from PGW truck

A 34-year-old man is accused of ripping off two gas-leak detectors and a GPS systemfrom a Philadelphia Gas Works truck just down the street from his home.

Pollice charged William Cook with breaking into a PGW vehicle parked on South Second Street near Moore Street at about 5:45 a.m. on Nov. 25 — a location two blocks away from his residence on South Fourth Street.

Cook went straight for theequipment in the truck, which was worth an estimated$3,000,police said.

On Dec. 7, two officers who observed video of the theft tentatively identified the suspect as Cook, whom they knew from previous encounters.

After reviewing more photos of Cook, the identification was confirmed and he was arrested Monday, police said.

Court records show Cook has multiple previous arrests for theft.

PGW did not respond to a request for comment.
